Sorry I have been gone so long! Somehow Blogger wouldn't let me log in! I tried numerous times to retrieve my password, set up a new password, and just log in to post...without ever being able too?! Finally today I was able to reset my whole account without losing anything...YIPPPPEEEE!!!!

I am SO excited....I HAVE HAD OVER ONE MILLION VISITS TO MY BLOG!!!! Wowsers! I would have never thought that when I started blogging! Thank you everyone for following me and stopping by to visit!

Well, now that I can finally post again, I am gonna be sharing a few pictures and tutorials with all of you! I have started making some changes here at the "Patch". Nothing dramatic, like I see happening with other bloggers out there...I still like my Primitive/Colonial/Country style. I am just adding some decorative touches to here and there: like stitching new curtain, adding new fabrics here and there, doing some painting, and building a few new pieces!

I will be back soon with some pictures and a few new tutorials! Just a little teaser...I have a new cabinet/stand I am about to start building (easy tutorial for you all)....SO, STAY TUNED!

Thought I would share with you some pictures of the outside of my home, this Summer. (You can click on the pix to make them larger)

This is what the house looked like when we purchased it! Very in need of TLC!

These are the 'AFTER' pictures...where we are today! There is still lots to do, but it is coming along nicely!

I finally got to get the whole foundation of the house painted! What a difference this has made! I plan on adding shutters next year and using this same color...it is a nice Barn Red! We also got some landscaping done, I just need to get the white stone put in there yet...lol.

Some of my prim goodies are incorporated into the landscaping.

Here is my front porch. This is the only painting I still have to do. It will be done in the Epoxy paint, and I sure am hoping to have this done before Fall! This is standing on the steps entering the front porch. This is what you see when you come onto my porch...minus my dog, Dusty...LOL! Filled with Prim goodness in Red, White & Blue!

I did a tutorial on this birdhouse a while back if anyone is interested. It lights up and the stars shine at night!

A prim table I found at a yard sale at the beginning of Spring! The lady was having a garage sale and using this for her "money taking" station. I told her I wanted the table! She thought I was crazy and said $5.00?! HECK YA! It came home with me right then! Now it will hold all my outdoor prims and change with the seasons!

Found this bench along the roadside waiting for the garbage truck! It came home with me too!

Front door arrangement that will also change with seasons.

Love this bench! It is actually made from old barn wood! Got this at a craft shop for $5.00!!!

This was made for me by my dear friend, Kim (the prim school marm) a while back. She had one and I commented on it once that I loved hers. So, the next time I went to her house...she had made me one! Love it!!!

Where have I been?!

One word can sum that up....OUTDOORS!!!! I have been so busy with family picnics, outdoor activities, and yard work...that I haven't had time for anything else. And here we are, getting ready to send the kids back off to another school year! Where has the Summer gone?!

I am so looking forward to Fall and the cooler temps...but, I do hate to see Summer come and go! We just had this installed at the end of June and we have been enjoying it SO much! It is a nice family sized large pool too, 54" deep x 27' round! I have the Solar Cover on it today, since we have some rain moving in. But, the water temperature has been staying a wonderful 90 degrees! Just perfect!

We have plans on putting a large deck all around it at the beginning of Spring 2012, but for now that hasn't stopped any of us from having fun in it!!! We are also getting our yard "excavated" here in a few weeks, that is why it still looks a mess...CUZ' IT IS...LOL!!! But, we didn't wanna spend the Summer without grass and awaiting for new grass to grow! So, we put the excavation off til we close the pool. So, next year we are hoping to have a more leveled out yard that will be nice and thick with new grass!

Also, did you see that wonderfully prim sign "SETHMAN BEACH"?! (click on pix to enlarge it, then click on it again) Kerri over at "The Calico Rabbit" made that for me! I just added to an old redwood fence picket to pound it in the ground! I LOVE IT!

WOW! It has been such a long time since I posted! Well, my internet has been down for quite a few weeks now, and still not working properly. Sometimes I have it...sometimes I don't! In a way...it is a good thing! LOL. I seem to get a lot more accomplished around the house when the internet is not working! However, when you have an online shop and don't know when you are receiving orders...NOT such a good thing for having happy customers!

So, I am will be back soon with some pictures of what is happening here...as well as 2 wonderful swap packages that I recieved!

Tutorial Tuesday!

Thought you all would enjoy this 'Primitve Framed Recipe".

I did one of these a while back with my Toothwash and thought I would revamp it with a new recipe just in time for Spring! I found this recipe on a website & it dates back to 1857!!!

"BIRDS NEST PUDDING"

Supplies needed:
~Printed recipe (you will find this in my freebie box on the right side column, save it to your computer & print it out. I have given one in 5x7 size and one in 8x10 size).

~Strong Coffee or Tea

~Frame (either 5x7 or 8x10)

Directions:
Print out your recipe. I am using the 5x7 size. (If you chose the 5x7 size, you will have one to keep and one to give away!)

My chosen frame.

Next, remove the frame glass. I take and then 'center' it over my recipe. Trace around the glass.

Cut it out.

Now, take and submerge your recipe in your strong coffee (or tea). Now you will want to take and dry it. I do this by putting it in my Microwave for one minute. I then repeat this process for 3 more times (dipping and drying each time)! You can do this as many times as you wish to achieve the level of darkness you want for you recipe. I thought 3 times was enough for me.

Here is after 3 dippings & dryings!

Next, I take a dry hot iron and iron my paper recipe so that it is nice and flat.

Place it in your chosen frame! Here it is!!!

1/2 Bath Pictures

Thought I would share some pictures of my first floor 1/2 Bath. I did it in a "laundry" theme, I had quite a few Laundry related items that I had from my previous home. I had a first floor laundry in that home, so I kept it nicely decorated. Unfortunately, the laundry is located in the basement in this home (only for a moment, cuz I plan on enclosing my back porch into a mudroom/laundry room soon...hubby just doesn't know that yet..LOL!) so, I needed to find a place for my Laundry Prims. Well, they landed in our 1/2 Bath!

Do you know how hard it is to get pictures of a 3'x6' Bathroom?! LOL

This is the 'toilet' area. Packing alot of stuff in here! LOL

My "over-the-toilet" stand. I love these cuz they give extra display space of an otherwise wasted space!

A reproduction 'boot remover' that I made into a candleholder.

The Picture & Washboard is from Tolentreasures. She was my partner a while back in a Laundry room swap I hosted! Her painting is beyond perfection! The picture above Laundry blocks are also done by her!

Looking into the bathroom from the front foyer. I still need to sew a "skirt" for around my pedestal sink. I am going to try and do that before the end of next month. Have a few things happening the next 2 weeks and I don't think I can get to it before then.

That is my 'grain box' that I did a tutorial on a while back. Filled it with sweet annie and some lye soap on its shelf area. My scruboard (did a tutorial on this too a while back) is in an old metal bucket filled with replica soap box, old clothespins, and some old dirtied up linens. I also use an old antique wooden box to hold extra rolls of toilet paper handy...lol. And LOOKIE, LOOKIE at my Antique corner medicine cabinet! GLORIOUS!!! This was a true lucky find at a local antique shop! The inside still has its original 'pepto bismol' pink paint...and the mirror is starting to get that aged flaking on it...LOVE THIS!

YEP! We are celebrating ANOTHER birthday here in The Pickled Pepper House! My ONLY son (poor guy, stuck between 4 girls!) is 21yrs old today! Here he is long with a friend, at my oldest daughters wedding last Summer! We still have ONE more yet this month to celebrate...LOL. That will be in 2 weeks! Lots of Birthday cake to found in the Month of March here!

Today is my daughter's, Cheyenna, 14th birthday! She is the 'baby' of the family. Wow, how time flies!

Here she is in one of the 1,000's of photos that these girls take of themselves! LOL. I can't EVER remember taking as many pictures of myself, as these kids do in today's age! I don't think I ever have to carry a camera anymore to "capture" moments of my kids, they capture it themselves. LOL

"Whatcha Cooking?!" Wednesday

This is such a Quick & Easy Casserole to make for a Saturday Morning breakfast, or to serve at a Church Brunch! It is SO good!! If you don't like Sausage, you can use Bacon...and I have even used both!

"SAUSAGE & EGG CASSEROLE"

INGREDIENTS;

1 pound pork sausage (or bacon, if using instead)

1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent roll dough

8 eggs, beaten

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

1 teaspoon dried oregano

DIRECTIONS:

Place sausage (or bacon) in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble, and set aside.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Line the bottom of the prepared baking dish with crescent roll dough, and sprinkle with crumbled sausage )or bacon). In a large bowl, mix beaten eggs, mozzarella, and Cheddar. Season the mixture with oregano, and pour over the sausage and crescent rolls.

Bake 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Enjoy!

***If you want to use both sausage & bacon, just do a 1/2 lb. of sausage & 1/2 lb. of bacon.

TIP: To keep your paint brushes nice and soft, occasionally throw them into a pint or quart Mason jar filled with a 1:4 ratio of Liquid Fabric Softner of choice (that being 1) to Water (that being 4). Let soak for a few hours; Remove and Rinse! Nice soft brushes once again!

Well, I have been thinking again about Swapping..."OH NO!" my hubby said! But, this time I wanted to do a Swap that was very different than any other Swap I have done before.

So, I thought let's do a 'SECRET SISTER" SWAP!!!

I know that most of you are familiar with what a "Secret Sister" is...but, for any of you that is not...then you WILL need to read the Rules below very carefully, actually anyone who is considering this Swap MUST read the rules carefully because this is going to take ALOT of commitment from you!

So, here are the Rules:

"SECRET SISTER SWAP'

~This WILL be a "Secret" Swap between Swapping Sisters! This means, I (and only I) will know who is swapping with who! That is the fun of having a "Secret" Sister!

~THIS WILL TAKE COMMITMENT!!! Let me repeat this....THIS WILL TAKE COMMITMENT!!! Because, this is going to take place until the end of this year! Yes, that means it will be NINE months for this Swap!!! (Now, pick yourself off the floor and please read on so I can finish explaining!!!)

~You MUST send out atleast ONE PACKAGE WITH ATLEAST ONE ITEM (I did say ONE) to your Secret Sister ONCE A MONTH! Now, you can include more than one item in your package each month...but, I am asking you atleast send out a package for each month!

~Your package MUST be mailed each month by the due date I have specified for each month. I will have the LAST friday of each month as everyones mailing date! I WILL SEND AN EMAIL EACH MONTH REMINDING EVERYONE ABOUT THIS! But, it will be the last Friday of Each Month!

around the Pickled Pepper Patch! Thought I would share a few pictures of my Living Room. I am still working on getting all them Prim boxes slowly unpacked...LOL. I have gotten a few more things put up on the walls and thought I would share pictures of what my Livingroom looks like.

First, I wanted to share with you what my Livingroom looked like BEFORE! This is when everything was still entact and before Demo! This was the front door, as you see you just "fell" into the Livingroom!

Here is standing by the front door. The Livingroom was quite small, as you can see. The doorway there led to what was once the Diningroom. Look how gross that carpet was!!!

Here it is today! As you seen in a previous post, we moved the front door and added a Foyer area! There is a 1/2 bath to the left and a coat closet to the right. We then made a big Livingroom out of the old livingroom & diningroom by taking down that wall that divided the two!

"Whatcha Cooking?!" Wednesday

Thought I would start up a new posting every other Wednesday here at the Patch! I figured I would do this every other Wednesday, so I can keep some Wednesdays open for my "Wood'n it Be Nice?!" Wednesdays. I still plan on bringing that back here, just waiting for the weather to break so I can get back into my garage and get my workspace organized....It is a DISASTER since we moved here! But, for now...I leave you with a recipe that my whole family LOVES!

This is a very simple, easy to make soup, that has just the right amount of flavor! Hope you enjoy!

"TACO SOUP"

INGREDIENTS:

*2 lbs. of Ground Beef or Turkey

*1-1/2 Envelopes of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing Mix (not dip)

*1-1/2 Envelopes of Taco Seasoning

*1 Can of tomatoes w/ chiles (I use Walmart brand)

*1 Can of Stewed Tomatoes

*1 Can of Corn (drained)

*1 Can of Beef Broth

*Small Onion

*1 lb. Box of Elbow Macoroni

*Shredded Cheddar Cheese (optional)

*Sour Cream (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

Brown Beef or Turkey in skillet with Onion. Drain fat. In a large Saucepan transfer your Beef or Turkey. Add Envelopes of Hidden Valley & Taco Seasoning mix; mix well. Add your Cans of Corn, Stewed Tomatoes, Tomatoes w/ chiles & Beef Broth. Cover and simmer for an hour. About 30 minutes before your soup is done simmering cook your Elbow Macoroni in another saucepan. Add to your Elbow Mac now to your Soup and Simmer for the last 15 minutes. Top with Shredded Cheddar & a dollap of Sour Cream! Enjoy!

****You can choose to substitute the Elbow Macaroni with 2 Cans of Kidney Beans! We are NOT a Bean eating family here...so, I use Macaroni. You also can choose NOT to add Beans or Macaroni and just scoop this with Tortilla's...however you choose...this is a Great Dish!

Not really Prim, but my neices first birthday was this past weekend...so I painted her a cute little plate just for that special occasion! This was just an inexpensive $2.97 plate from Walmart, that she will have each year for her "special day"!

Well, now EVERYONE of my neices wants one! Guess I will be busy this year making a few more plates!

Here are a few Glasses that I painted for this past Superbowl. These were ALL glasses that I bought from the Dollar Tree! Of course I live in Pittsburgh, so we are BIG Steelers fans here! Well, I made everyone a glass to drink from during the Superbowl this year! Everyone got their "initials" painted on them so no one lost their drink! Here they are all grouped together.

My sisters got Wine glasses, since they love their wine! This is the backs of them...I put crystals on them too for them. We love the Steelers, Pirates, & Penguins here...so, now they can use their glasses for any of the sporting season!

The "underside" of the wine glasses had The Pittsburgh cocktail recipe!

Easter Decor

Decided to put up a little Easter Decor this week. We have had some really nice weather here (in the 60's) and I couldn't wait to freshen up the house with some Spring Goodies.

I LOVE this window box! It is one of my favorite pieces in my home, because I can change it out with each Season! Here it is with some Spring Flowers.

After I took that first picture, I decided that it needed a little more greenery and a few crows!

Another one of my favorite things is this Bunny! He is almost 18" tall! I have him setting on a few of my antique baskets. He stays out almost all year long in different groupings cuz' he actually has Sunflowers in his backpack and watering can!

This actually sits on top of my trash can cupboard.

Another one of my favorite places to decorate...My Dry Sink! I got this dry sink almost 2 years ago at a yard sale and refinished it.....you can see it here http://charsethman.blogspot.com/2009/07/makeover-monday.html . This is actually my header picture right now.

As you see it doesn't have doors below, it did when I bought it, but they were badly warped from water damage...so I removed them and refinished without them. Well.....

I really wanted to use the bottom for some extra storage, so yesterday I got out some greenish ticking...and just stitched the edges and strung it from some twine, just like the Settlers would have done to any of their cupboards! Much better, now I have some added storage!

Fabric Carrots

Thought I would bring these back for all of you, since Easter will be here before we all know it!

"FABRIC CARROTS"

Supplies:
*Osnaburg Muslin (you can use regular Muslin, but I like the texture of this for carrots)
*Orange Embroidery Floss
*Strong Coffee
*Orange Craft Paint
*Sand Paper (100 grit)
*Sweet Annie (if you dont have this on hand, you can use....green ribbon, small twigs painted green, crimped green paper, etc.)
*Hot Glue Gun
*Carrot Pattern (in my freebie box to the right)

Directions:

First, you will need to take and download my carrot pattern to your computer. Then you will need to print it out. Cut out the carrot patterns now.
Next, take them to your Osnaburg fabric and trace them onto it. These are true to size when sewn together.

Now, take and put your fabric (right side) together. Meaning you will need to flip one of them over so they match up. Sew them together now, leaving the tops of the open.

Now, turn them right-side out. I do use hemostats to do this with. You can find them at any medical supply store. If you don't have a pair of them, just use a wooden spoon handle.

Now, with your polyfill, stuff them to almost the top.

Next, take your Embroidery Floss and do a "Running Stitch" all the way around the top. Leave long threads at each side, and do NOT close it yet.

Now, take and start adding little "indents" all around your carrot. I did this just by simply taking my thread down thru the center of the carrot, and just stitching up and out the top then moving over a little and stitching back down and pulling it taught. Do this all around the carrot randomly and then knot it off.

Take your strong coffee now and add some craft paint to it. I add, stir, then add some more till I have a nice Orange colored stain.

Now, stain your carrots all over with it. Place them in your oven (on 300 degrees) to dry now. I put them on some aluminum foil and watch them. They will take about 10 minutes to dry, and you will need to flip them halfways thru.

Once dry, take and sand them lightly with your sandpaper.
I then restain mine with just some strong coffee (without paint in it) and dry them again in the oven for a couple of minutes.

Add a few sprigs of your Sweet Annie (or whatever else you are going to use) to the top with a dab of hot glue. Pull your running stitch together tightly and tie off...Done!

Here is what they look like all finished! I have mine displayed in a bunny basket (pictured in my header), but these will great everywhere for Easter!

Here is the first of two (YES, I said 2!) canvas floorclothes that she sent me!!! I love them both! This one is in now in my full bath in front of my vanity. I took this picture as soon as they came out of their packages, but they lay VERY flat as soon as they warm to room temperature. GREAT JOB ANNE ON THESE!

Here is the 2nd one. She informed me that this was one of her "irregular" ones and I could do what I wished with it! Well, I needed the 'right' rug to walk across from my tiled entry, across my living room carpet, to my tiled dining room....PERFECT!!!

Anne, if you are reading this, "irregular" is what Prim is all about...This is Prim Perfect!

This came in another box....Wool Rag Balls, a beautiful bobbin, Wonderful smelling tarts, a Pillow Tuck, and a sachet that smells glorious!

Well, once again...there was an uneven number in my "5 favorite things" swap, so I had 2 partners. I never mind though, I actually like it when it happens that way! LOL

So, here are my swap goodies I got from Amy over at http://bumblebeelanecottage.blogspot.com/. It was a wonderful package!

Here is my first goodie...a pinkeep/Ornie! Oh, I just LOVE this one! It was perfect for hanging...not too big not too small!

So, I hung it where I could enjoy it several times a day...right above my kitchen sink!

Next is this gorgeous Blackened wax Pineapple! This thing is large and heavy!!! No wax spared in the making of this one! It did come with a piece of grungy cheesecloth around the neck..but I removed it cuz I didn't want nothing taking away from its beauty! LOL

Next, would be this beautiful bonnet!!! Oh, I love Bonnets! It is the blue one in the middle, and now hangs with several other bonnets in my dining room! It was made by Lecia over at Farmhouse Prims. LOVE IT!

Also, was this reed diffuser and votive candel from Yankee Candle Co. The fragrance is Home Sweet Home. I love it and have it actually sitting on my kitchen countertop!

Lastly, was this wonderful painted wooden plate. I love the color and new exactly where I would put it!

I have been searching for something to place my flower pot onto since it sits on this old heater in my entryway....PERFECT!

Well, with Valentines Day just around the corner, I thought I'd better get my tushy in gear and get a few gifts together for my kiddos! So, I thought I would put together some Gift Baskets. I LOVE to give "Gift Baskets"! They are practical, customizable, and yet easily put together on a tight budget! With a little "creativity" anyone can give a beautiful, but affordable, gift!

This basket cost me under $12.00 to put together and it is just so girlie & adorable! My daughter actually has a birthday party to attend tonite...and since I havent went out to even grab a card...I think this is what she will be giving her friend....LOL! But, this is a great inexpensive basket to give to any girl for Valentines day!

VALENTINE GIFT BASKET

(You can click on each picture to see it in a bigger siz)

DIRECTIONS:

First, we are going to make the "Framed Hearts" picture. My theme with this basket was Pink, Black & White. I like to keep my baskets themed or color cordinated for a nice look. So, I purchased a nice long black frame with a double photo mat inside from Walmart, some buttons from my button stash, and a scrap piece of black cardstock. ( I decided NOT to use any of the black floss shown in picture)

Next take you glass out of the frame, and place inside the photo openings your black cardstock, taping it securely from behind so it does not move.

With a Glue Gun, glue your large Glitter Hearts in the center. You can do this frame vertically or horizonal, I chose vertical. Now, with your glue gun add your cordinating buttons to each corner and in the middle. You are done with your "Framed Hearts"! Any girl would love this for her room!

Next, we are going to add some "SWEETS" to the basket..."CHOCOLATE DIPPED MARSHMALLOW POPS"!!!

You will need Candy Canes (or any kind of sprinkles will work), Semi Sweet Chocolate Morsels, teaspoon veggie oil, Marshmallows (I am using pink ones), Skewer sticks (or lollipop sticks), mini muffin cups, microwaveable bowl, freezer paper, and spoon.

We need to crush our candy canes first, so here they are ready to go to the "crushing" stage!

I put mine in a ziploc baggie and release all the air. With a small hammer, I just smash away til they are in little pieces!

Now, lets melt our chocolate chips! I take a 1/2 of a 12 oz. bag and put them into a microwaveable bowl. Add 1 tsp. of veggie oil...now stir them up. Pop them into the microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and put them back in again for another 30 seconds. I do this process until they are nice and melted. Then I let them sit for about 5 minutes before I start dipping. Just don't let the chocolate get hard again, it usually doesn't right away though.

While that is cooling down some, I start putting my marshmallows on the skewers.

Ready to Dip! I line it up! I have crushed candy canes and red & white sprinkles.

I dip my marshmallow 1/2 ways into the chocolate and then shake some of the chocolate back off.

Now, roll it into the candy canes! You will need to set them onto wax paper or freezer paper now to harden. I put them on a cookie sheet and into my freezer for a minute or two.

When they are hard, pop your muffin cups onto the bottom of them so they "sit" in them.

YUMMY!

I then wrap them with cellaphane wrap and tie them with curly ribbon. I did a few of them just sitting in a muffin baking cup and no stick...so, if you don't have stick, no worry!

Now, time to assemble the basket! I used a pink wire basket (Target $2.50...and good for girls to later throw all that makeup & hair products into), filled it with a bag of white shredded filler, added a pink pillow from Target ($2.50), some chocolate lips, framed picture and chocolate marshmallows.

Place all your goodies neatly into the basket!

Place it inside a large basket bag and tie it with some pink curly ribbon! Any teen or girl will enjoy this basket!

So, grab some baskets...and get giving this holiday!

Thought I would share some pictures of my front entry way! I am still uncovering and "tweaking" the Primitives around the house (this is a never ending process, as most of you know...wink, wink!) but, thought I would share some picture of where you enter into my home. I do like a more "simple & uncluttered" look...besides, who likes to dust all that stuff anyways?!!! LOL So to some of you, my house my look a little "bare", but to me it speaks "SIMPLICITY".

This is the OLD Living Room! You actually just "fell" into the living room when you entered into the Front Door. Now, this area is our foyer, 1/2 bath, and coat closet! The 1/2 bath is actually where that front door used to sit, and that window is no longer there.

The Livingroom when it was finally "gutted" and ready for its transformation!

HERE IS THE NEW FOYER AREA! We added a 1/2 bath, centered a new front door, and to the right is a coat closet!

This is the Old solid wall that lead into the first floor bedroom (which is now our Dining Room)! We opened up that wall so we could have access from the livingroom to the dining room.

The new "Opening" into the Livingroom! This is looking in from the diningroom to the livingroom. It is a 6 ft. opening, so it is nice and large!

Puttering around with Paint

Yep, got the paint brush back in hand and that only means one thing, my hubby says...."She's painting anything that sits still long enough"! Well, he really does have a good solid arguement, so NO point in disputting that fact....LOL. But, this time I had my eye set on my bathroom vanity.

I have come to realize that when you are building a house on a tight budget...you sometimes have to "settle", or I like to say "compromise", on some design issues. Well, here is one of those "compromises"....MY BATHROOM VANITY.

See, there are MANY beautiful choices of Bathroom Vanities out there...but, they require payment of One Arm & Two Legs!!! So, I opted to use cold hard cash and pick from the wide variety left (that would be just 2 choices) on the showroom floor at Home Depot.

My 2 beautiful choices now were: Eye-Blinding White OR Fake Paper Oak!!!

Well, knowing I had to "live with" one of these choices for a little I had to pick one from the "lessor of two evils"...so, I choose the White. Somehow, I could NOT see myself just living with "Fake Paper Oak"!

So, the time has finally come, that we no longer have to grab the Sunglasses to enter the bathroom! The Eye-Blinding White Vanity is GONE!

So, this is MY $8.00 Upgrade!.....All I did was painted it (anything can be painted with PROPER prepping) with a nice Satin Enamel Paint by Valspar....Changed out the Hardware to Oil-rubbed Bronze to match my faucet....and a Huge difference!...Now I LOVE IT!

Hope this inspires someone...that if you don't LOVE it....just PAINT IT!

Is it Spring yet?!

I know...Christmas was only a little over a week ago and New Years has only just passed. BUT, I am so ready for Spring!!! I know, some of you just LOVE the cold weather...but, this Gal DOES NOT!!! No, I don't want it to be 90 degrees with 90% humidity...but, I do wanna see green grass and fresh flowers! LOL

I just am not one that likes to (for lack of a better word) "Nest" inside my home. I love to work in the yard, plant flowers, and just enjoy sitting under a shade tree, sipping sweet tea while watching the kiddos enjoy the outdoors! So, once Christmas & New Years is over....BRING ON THE WARM SUNSHINE!

I NEVER decorate for Winter, only Christmas...so, once the Holiday decor is put away....OUT COMES THE SPRING FLOWERS!!! I don't put the "Bunnies" on display until about March, but the rest of my Florals start making their debute! Thought I would share just a few pictures of some of the ones I have found in my unpacking state. lol

I was just sitting here thinking about ALL the things that still need to be done around the Homestead here. My, Oh my! There is still so much left to do! Some big things...some little things (like things I just would like to make), but I have a list already started for 2011!

So, here are just a few things I would like to accomplish:

~Build another "over-the-toilet" stand for my main bath.
~Find 2 nice nightstands for my master bedroom
~Paint my, and my 2 girls bedroom furniture (everything is just a hod podge right now!)
~Finish my trunk/coffee table
~Make 2 bookcase ends along side my livingroom fireplace. I want this to look like a large unit!
~Make 3 Primitive Stool/Benches for my Breakfast bar.
~Make a Primitive Corner Mirror Cabinet for our 1/2 bath.
~Paint our Main Bath Vanity.
~Finish my upstairs hall closet.
~Make a Primitive Towel cupboard for my main bathroom.
~Enclose our back porch for our new "mudroom".
~Fence in our entire yard.
~Build our side Deck off the Dining room.
~Install our new Pool.
~Install all our Sidewalks.
~Make our new Parking area along side our house.

Whew! Well, that is a portion of my list...I am certain there is more to add...but, that should keep me busy for the Summer! So, what are your plans this coming year?!

I have lots of counter space now..and I love it! But, I do like them to look clean and uncluttered, so I tend to organize things in various wooden boxes.

The sliding doors here were once just the bedroom window! We will be adding a large deck to our swimming pool here in the Summer, so this will be great access for all the "Grilling" out there!

I didn't get it in this photo...but right next to my dry sink area is another doorway we added! It ables us to go right into our living room area from the Dining room. It was a solid wall too!

Wow! I have really been itching to do swap! So, with the holidays past & most of my unpacking is completed...I am ready to swap! I thought I would get back to doing a few "themed" type swaps. I kinda like narrowing down the choices of things I should include. Or my mind just runs crazy and I can't decide what to include in my packages! LOL

So, here is our first swap for the New Year! It will include 5 of your favorite things! I know we all have certain things that we really enjoy! Hello everyone! I sure have missed you all! I hope your Holidays were filled with family, friends, love & laughter! Well, we are finally all moved into our new home...and it feels AWESOME! We got to share Thanksgiving & Christmas here with family, and we so enjoyed it! I have been slowly unpacking all my Prim goodies and getting things put into place. I really missed seeing all my things around me!!!

I will be sharing some pictures soon with all of you! Until then, here is one of my favorite pieces of furniture. This was a "curbside find" a few years ago. Since then, I removed the glass doors, replaced the glass shelves with wood, repainted the old 1950's honey colored stained with several layers of paint, then sanded and distressed it. It is now filled with some of my favorite Pewter pieces!

Here is a closer look inside (it is actually my new header picture). Eeekkkk! We have mice!

Finally, the day has come...

to start unpacking all those boxes! After 9 long months of hard work, we are moving into our newly renovated home...and just in time for the holidays!!! So, I will be a hard working Jolly Ol' Elf unpacking each and every box that I have had packed for the 2 years! I started packing way before I ever knew where "home" was gonna be! I can not wait to see some of my old primitives that I have put away, along with some of the new primitives that I have swapped with or purchased that I have never got to display! Paper will be a flying, boxes will be a tossing and I will be a smiling from ear to ear as I uncover all those cherished prims! I won't even need a Christmas gift this year cuz my heart will be dancing just to finally see all my goodies placed around me in my new home!

So, with that said, I will be away from my computer for a few weeks til this Ol Elf has gotten the Homestead back together! I want to wish you all a safe and HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I have added my Christmas playlist for you all to get into the Holiday Spirit!

Sad to say....I have a brand new primitive chandleir that I DON'T have room for in my new home! This is a 6-arm chandelier similar to this one pictured below. IT IS BEAUTIFUL! I originally bought it for my Living Room, but the room is so large we decided to add 2 large ceiling fans with lighting in there! I know, not really a "Prim" decision...but, we love to entertain...and this helps to circulate the air alot better when there is ALOT of rpeople in the house. So, my lose is YOUR GAIN! I need to get pictures of it tomorrow in the daylight so you can see the true beauty of it!

It is a 6-arm chandlier, is deep red over black with black chain and ceiling mount included. It is brand new and never used! I bought it online almost 2 years ago and never hung it! I have had these goodies in my possession for a while now! I am finally just getting around to posting pictures of them...SORRY TAMMY! My partner was Tammy from "A Primitive Place", and let me say....SHE SENT ME SOME AWESOME FALL GOODIES! I can not wait to move in and display all these wonderful Fall items! Here they are in all their Primitive Goodness!

Just look at this Pumpkin doll! I LOVE HIM! He actually is made on an old bedspring! Then these wonderful Pumpkins, one of them is actually a pin keep ontop a small paper mache' box!

Also included in the package: Fall Prim towels, Bag of Punkin Pods, Fall Tarts & tealights, Prim Firestarter Sticks (atleast that is what I call them...lol), Fall Candle ring, and Wax Corn on the Cob bowl fillers!

Lastly: Pumpkin Salt & Pepper Shakers, 2 Fall Candles, Primitive Candle holder, and 2 ditty bags (that I plan on filling with some drieds!)!!

"Faux Caramel Apples" tutorial is back!!!

I have been asked several times about these lately, since Fall is just around the corner! These were featured in Create & Decorate 2010 Fall Issue, but I thought I would share them with you all once again! Have fun!

These are very easy to make...and sorry, but I don't have any pictures at the moment of the process, still in the "packed" stage of moving!

Supplies needed:

Stryrofoam Apples (bought mine at Dollar Tree)

Decoupage Medium (Modge Podge)

Craft Paint (any tan caramel color will work)

Corn Cob Litter (Walmart in Small animal section)

Popsicle sticks

Disposable plastic cup

Plastic Spoon

Wax Paper

Gloss Spray finish (Walmart Brand Clear Spray)

Directions:

1. Insert your popsicle sticks into the top of your Apples. If you'd like, you can

pull out and add a dab glue.

2. Place your Apple onto a large piece of Wax Paper.

3. Mix approximately 1/2 the bottle of Mod Podge about 2-3

teaspoons of your craft paint.

4. Stir with popsicle stick.

You can add more if it's not opaque enough.

Or adjust the color to your preferance.

I wanted mine a little darker, so I added a few squeezes of a darker brown.

5. Now with your plastic spoon, spoon colored Mod Podge over your Apples.

Let it drip down the sides like real Caramel would.

6. Repeat over all the Apples.

You can let some of the Apple peek through

near the bottom, this just makes it look truer.

7. Sprinkle your Corn Cob litter on the top and lightly down the sides.

8. Place your Apples onto a new piece of Wax Paper to dry OVERNIGHT!

I checked mine in the morning to see if the glue had

dried, then lay them on their sides for another half a day to dry the bottom.

9. Once your Apples are completely dry, Spray them with your gloss

clear sealer. This will give them that added shine they need to look

like real Caramel Apples!

10. Now, display them all together sitting on plate...just be careful because someone IS going to try and take a bite of them! LOL

If you'd like to go a step further and package them up for gifts, etc.

You can place them into clear cellophane bags and tie them with raffia, ribbon, etc.

Whew! The last few months have been TOTALLY crazy here! I have been working on our house renovation, planning and implementing my daughters bridal shower, then her wedding (which was this past weekend!), helping our church out with a new childrens bible school wing, packing & then moving us all in with my parents, then packing again to head out for a weeks vacation (which was the week before my daughters wedding...ugh, bad timing!), and lets not include still working night shift 44 hours a week ! I AM TIRED!!!

But, I will say....there is ONE positive thing about everything happening all at one time. The fact that most everything is over ALL at one time! Everything, except, for our home renovation. But, now I can concentrate exclusively on just that! So, the next 2 months I will be doing just that!

I did wanna share with you a few pictures though of the BEAUTIFUL "Weekend Wedding" that my daughter had! YES, you read that right....we had a whole Weekend Wedding! It was on her grandfathers 172 acre farm! There were Tenters there, RV's there, family & friends that stayed in the 8 bedroom farmhouse, and family & friends that rented "blocked" rooms at the nearest hotels!

It all started with Friday nites Wedding Rehersal. This was not only shared with the bridal party, but all those that showed up from different cities & states to attend! We had over 50 people just that evening for an outdoor feast!

Then Saturday we were up and early to get ready for the Wedding! We had another beautiful day with lots of sunshine and low humidity! We had over 160 guests attend! It was a beautiful ceremony that led into an evening of eating, dancing & enjoying the cool 60 degree nite! We had so much to do there from Dancing under the pavillion (that was built this year by my daughters dad & family), Various outdoor games, Sitting by the Campfire roasting marshmallows & making smores, to enjoying the end of the evening with a wonderful slideshow of the bride & groom (from birth to now) which was shown on the side the Barn that sits next to the farmhouse!

On Sunday morning, we were up early again to begin cooking Breakfast! We had over 50 people that showed back up to eat before they were on their way home from a fun-filled weekend! After Breakfast, we all cleaned up the Farmhouse Grounds and headed back home.

It was such a wonderful weekend! Here are just a few of the pictures that I took over the weekend!

Sorry I didn't get to post my "2nd Blog Anniversary" Giveaway Winner on Sunday....but, I was busy ALL day moving! Yep, we have moved! Not into our new house yet, but in with my parents. It is just more convienent and closer to the new house, as well as our jobs. So, less time traveling and more time being put into working on the house! We are estimating to be done with renovation by the end of September. But, for now....we are with mom & dad! Thank goodness that they never moved out of their 4 bedroom home! lol

Well, 2 years ago today I started Blogging! Didn't know a thing about it, but it sure seemed fun! So, I decided to create a Blog of my own, after reading others for about a week. Here I am....2 years later and over 1000 followers! Who would have thought?!

I usually would have some kind of Wooden Item for this occasion...but, I am all packed up and ready to move! So, my "Wood Shed" is closed temporarily at this moment...waaaaahhhhhh! But, I do have my needle & thread still working it's magic! ;-)

New "Textile Swap"!

It's been almost a year since I last hosted my "Textile Swap" and thought I would host another one! This is such an easy Swap and VERY inexpensive to ship...since textiles don't weigh very much! So, if you are like me and LOVE textiles, then this might be a Swap for you! Please read the rules thoroughly first!!!

Textile Swap Rules:

1. This is a TEXTILE SWAP! So, Textiles are what you will want to include in your package! (Think flour sack towels, stitcheries, prim stitched hand towels, pillow tucks, etc.) I want this Swap to be able to fit into a padded envelope that can ship out very inexpensively!

2. This Swap MUST be mailed in a large padded envelope...NO BOXES! With that being said, all your items now should be light and inexpensive to mail via USPS! You can find some of the larger envelopes at your local Walmart, Staples, etc for just a few dollars! If you are including a framed stitchery behind glass...just wrap it securely with some of the other textiles in your package for protection, you could also place some heavy cardboard inside the envelope as well!

3. Your package MUST include atleast 5 textiles!!! This will ensure everyone will be getting a nice little package in the mail! These textiles can be Seasonal or Everyday, that is up to you and what you think your partner would like!

4. Atleast ONE of the items in your package MUST be handmade! You can choose to handmake that item yourself, or purchase it handmade! There are lots of craft shows going on this time of year as well as lots of great handmade primitive websites out there just dying for your business! But, one item MUST be handmade!

5. Your Item MUST be in completed form! We all have enough "unfinished" projects...No need to add another one to the pile!

6. You MUST have a Blog of your own! Sorry, I know alot of you just have email accounts...but, I prefer to have just Blog Swappers as this just shows commitment to Blogging. Also, you MUST have had a post to your Blog within the last 3 months, as well! And, YES, I will check!

7. You MUST have commented atleast 5 times on my Blog! I just like to know those that I am swapping with...another Pet Peeve of mine! LOL. Besides, I have had 3 times now where Bloggers think it is better to receive then give! So, I am trying to avoid that happening again!

8. You MUST follow thru with your Swap and BE ON TIME! This is NOT a difficult swap...so, be on time! Nothing worse then waiting for a swap to arrive 3 months late! We all get excited waiting for them packages....but, when they are on time! If you don't follow thru or late with your swap, you will NOT be allowed to Swap again here. (I do keep a list too)

9. Your package MUST be atleast a $20 value! Just keeping it fair for everyone!

10. You MUST thank your partner when you recieve your package! I HATE ungratefulness! Your partner just put alot of time and thought into your package (atleast I hope so!), so THANK THEM! I don't care if you like everything or not! It won't kill you to thank them! Believe me, 99% of the time....YOU WILL LOVE YOUR PACKAGE!

11. Absolutely NO Dollar Tree, Dollar General, or any other low quality Textiles! I live by many Craft Shops and at any given time I can find many nice Textiles for under $3 each! So, if I can...I know you can too! We all can head to the Dollar Store and pick up something....so, please don't send them for this Swap!

12. You MUST get a Delivery Confirmation # when you send out your package! That way if your package doesn't make it to it's destination...we can find its whereabouts! I will also need you to Email me with that number!

13. You MUST ship your package by August 16th! That will give everyone almost 6 weeks to find some wonderful Textiles for their packages!

14. LASTLY, GIVE AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECIEVE!!! I would never give a package that I myself wouldn't want to get! If you live by that rule....your partner will never be disappointed! ;-)

I love this Bedroom! Reminds me of vacationing on Lake Michigan! At night we would prop open the windows and listen to the waves crash on shore while a gentle breeze filled the room! Ahhhhh, the simple things in life!

"Wood'n it be Nice?!" Wednesday

Here is a little something that I made the other day for my new house's front porch. Actually it is not a "little" something, but 4 foot tall something! Hope you enjoy!

4 FOOT BIRDHOUSE

SUPPLIES:

*(2) 1"x8"x4' pine boards

*(2) 1"x6"x4' pine board

*(1) 1"x10"x4" pine board

*Star Template (I used a large Star Cookie Cutter)

*3 Masonary Nails (I rusted mine)

*Drill with a 1/4" drill bit

*Jigsaw

*Wood Glue

*1 1/4" finishing nails

DIRECTIONS:

First, we are going to start with one of your 1x8 boards. We are going to mark the "Star cutouts" area. You will need to find the center of your board (24") and mark it. Then mark 12" from the top of the board and 12" from the bottom of the board. This is where your Star cutouts will be.

Next, you will need to take your Star Template (aka: cookie cutter) and on your markings make your templates to cut out.

Now, with your drill bit, drill thru the middle of each star. This is where you are going to insert your Jigsaw blade and cut out your stars. Cut out all 3 Stars.

Next we are going to cut the "peak" of your birdhouse. You will need to measure across the top of your 1x8 boards to the center mark, which is 3-3/4". Now measure down each side 3-1/2" and make a mark. Now connect the marks, the middle to each side, with a line. Cut off them lines! You will now have formed the "Peak".

Now, lets assemble your Birdhouse! First, we are going to take your front board (the one with the Star cutouts) and attach it to one of your 1x6 boards. Apply a thin line of wood glue and nail securely from the front of your board into the side of your board.

Repeat this with the other 1x6 board.

Next, lets attach the back! Take your last 1x8 board and attach it to the back, using your wood glue and nails.

Now, lets cut the Roof for your Birdhouse. You will need to take your 1x10 board and cut 2 pieces, one at 9" and the other at 9-3/4". Now, attach them to the peak of your Birdhouse. The longer one will be the one all the way at the top.

Let's attach the Base now! First, we need to cut your 1x10 board Now, take and center your Birdhouse onto your base. Attach it with Glue & Nails all around to make sure it is nice and secure.

You are now done with the building! Finish your Birdhouse in your choice of stain or paint...or both like I have done! I stained the roof & base with Dark Walnut Mimwax stain, and painted the birdhouse in a Barn Red! Lastly, you will need to predrill 3 holes right underneath each star for your Masonary nails. You must predrill or your wood WILL split! Pound in each nail then.

Here it is all completed and waiting for its new home!

Well, Dessert season is officially here (atleast for me...lol)! So, the next few weeks I will be posting some wonderful, easy to make, delicious dessert recipes for all of you to use this Picnic Season! Hope you enjoy them!

APPLE CREAM PIE

Ingredients:

*2 medium apples, sliced

*1/2 c. brown sugar

*1/2 c. white sugar

*2 Tbsp. flour

*1 c. sweet cream

*1 egg

*pinch of salt

*1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions:

Put apples in premade pie crust. Sprinkle with nuts. Mix remaining ingredients together in large bowl. Pour over top. Bake slowly on 325 degrees for approximately 30 minutes.

Silhouettes Trio

This is such a nice trio set of Silhouettes, 2 boys and a girl. They are in 6x8 oval frames and behind plastic (not glass). I don't think they are really old, but they are adorable!
