"FABRIC CARROTS"

Supplies:

*Osnaburg Muslin (you can use regular Muslin, but I like the texture of this for carrots)

*Orange Embroidery Floss

*Strong Coffee

*Orange Craft Paint

*Sand Paper (100 grit)

*Sweet Annie

*Hot Glue Gun

*Carrot Pattern (in my freebie box to the right)

Directions:

First, you will need to take and download my carrot pattern to your computer. Then you will need to print it out. Cut out the carrot patterns now.

Next, take them to your Osnaburg fabric and trace them onto it. These are true to size when sewn together.

Now, take and put your fabric (right side) together. Meaning you will need to flip one of them over so they match up. Sew them together now, leaving the tops of the open.

Now, turn them right-side out. I do use hemostats to do this with. You can find them at any medical supply store. If you don't have a pair of them, just use a wooden spoon handle.

Now, with your polyfill, stuff them to almost the top.

Next, take your Embroidery Floss and do a "Running Stitch" all the way around the top. Leave long threads at each side, and do NOT close it yet.

Now, take and start adding little "indents" all around your carrot. I did this just by simply taking my thread down thru the center of the carrot, and just stitching up and out the top then moving over a little and stitching back down and pulling it taught. Do this all around the carrot randomly and then knot it off.

Take your strong coffee now and add some craft paint to it. I add, stir, then add some more till I have a nice Orange colored stain.

Now, stain your carrots all over with it. Place them in your oven (on 300 degrees) to dry now. I put them on some aluminum foil and watch them. They will take about 10 minutes to dry, and you will need to flip them halfways thru.

Once dry, take and sand them lightly with your sandpaper.

I then restain mine with just some strong coffee (without paint in it) and dry them again in the oven for a couple of minutes.

Lastly, in the open tops of your carrots, you are going to insert your Sweet Annie. Take and trim off some some small sprigs of this. Gather it into a little bunch, then add some hot glue into the inside of your carrots. Stuff your Sweet Annie into it, then with your pull your Embroidery Floss strings tight around it.

You now have "realistic" looking fabric carrots! Have fun!

"Summer-Time!" Swap

It is SO beautiful outside today, that I am thinking sweet thoughts of Summer! So, that got me thinking....Let's do a Summer-Time Swap! I am skipping right past Spring Time swapping (I don't really do alot of spring decor) and gearing up for Summer! This Swap will be due out by May 15th...so, this will give everyone plenty of time to make their goodies and ship them out.

Now, I am reminding everyone...this IS a Primitive Summer Time Swap! So again, that means the items we will be swapping will be: Torn & Tattered, Beaten-up, Broken Down, Rusty, Crusty, Seen-better-days Items!!! So, PLEASE....if you don't do Primitive, then this is NOT the Swap for you!

Now, here are the Rules if you would like to play:

SUMMER-TIME SWAP

1. You MUST be a follower of my Blog. If not, you can sign up on my right side column. Just click the "follow" button and it will prompt you from there.

2. You MUST have posted with me atleast 5 times prior to today. Starting today and posting back will not qualify either. As I get notifications of posts to my older postings.

3. You MUST have a Blog. Sorry, this just shows commitment to Blogging with friends. Besides, I have "slackers" with swapping that decided it was just better to recieve then give...and all but one of them was from Email account.

4. You MUST commit to following thru with your Swap! Just in case you don't, you WILL be blocked from my Blog. I know that life does sometimes get in the way, that is why I say "DON'T PROCRASTINATE!" & start on your swap as soon as you can! That way if something does come up, you might be almost finished and it will just take only a little time to complete instead of having to completely start your swap!

5. You MUST commit to sending out your swap ON TIME (Priority & with delivery confirmation). This will be a One-on-One Swap. Nothing worse then waiting for a package to show up 2 months after the swap was due! By then, the holiday or season has pretty much passed and you can't enjoy it til next year. Besides, how I think this is unfair to those that work hard to get their items out and others just send it when they feel like it!

6. You MUST thank your partner! Your partner put time and effort into making your goodies....THANK THEM! I don't care if you like it, or hate it...a simple thank you will NOT kill ya!

7. You MUST include atleast 5 items in your package.

8. You MUST include Summer Time items! This is a Summer Swap, so think Summer!!! Think items like: Red~White~Blue, Primitive Porches, Primitive Decks, Picnics, BBQ's, etc.!!! It is fine to email your partner and find out what they like, if they have a porch~deck~swimming pool, that way you get a better idea of what to include in your package. Besides, have fun & make a new friend!

9. GIVE AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECIEVE! Live by the rule: if you don't like it and wouldn't want to recieve it...then don't give it!

10. You MUST live in the United States or Canada. Sorry, Postal Rates are just killing us anymore!

11. You MUST mail out your package by May 15th! This gives everyone plenty of time to get a nice package out to their partner before the "official" start of Summer. This is just about the time everyone starts getting out them Summer items and displaying them anyways!

Now, if you wanna play along you will need to Email me your: Name, mailing addy, & Blog Link.

I will be taking Signups until midnite (EST) Sunday, March 14th!

Makeover Monday & New Wax Pantry Cakes

Today's makeover is just a simple Paint makeover. However, I wanted to share with all of you how simply painting a piece of furniture can change the whole look AND feel a piece can have! The is always the most inexpensive way to change out an entire look of a room. So, don't be afraid to buy yourself a good basecoating brush, some craft paint and some sandpaper!

This is actually one of my favorite cabinets in my home. I bought this several years ago, at Walmart on clearance for less then $100 to hold our living room tv. And YES it is solid Pine! I painted right after I got it to match my blue living room decor. Well, although I love "the blues" my house is really overdone in that color (did I just say that?!)!!! So, I decided that it needed a little change. So, here it is with "being blue".

Now, done in a Lamp Black finish. I like the fresh new look! Besides, this piece is not going to house our tv any longer when we move into our new home. We will be purchasing a bigger 52" tv to mount above our fireplace. So, this will be used to showcase some of my quilts that I have collected along with a few other Primitive Goodies!

So, if you are changing over your decor from another style (as I did a few years ago), the easiest way to do that is paint out some of your furniture pieces.

PANTRY CAKES!

I have been busy making up a bunch of "Blackened Pantry Cakes"! I am now offering them up in my Picturetrail shoppe. These look wonderful displayed in cupboards, on sideboards, or just sitting in a bowl! Stop on by and check them out! You can find my link on my right sidebar. I have a bunch more in different designs and shapes that I will be listing today and later this week. So, check back often!
